Rinca / Loh Buaya has one of the highest dragon densities in the park; April sits early in the dry season when dragons are active and easier to spot; a medium trek covers enough varied terrain to pass known resting areas.
These are wild animals in open habitat. Sightings are common on these routes but can never be guaranteed — your ranger reads the day and adapts.

Are Komodo dragon sightings guaranteed on the tour?
No. Komodo dragons are wild animals in open habitat, so no operator can honestly guarantee a sighting. On our ranger-led routes on Komodo and Rinca, sightings are common — especially in the dry season — but we frame them as high odds, never a promise.
What is the best month for a Komodo dragon boat tour?
The dry season, roughly April through October, generally offers the most reliable dragon activity and easier trekking conditions. Early dry season is a strong window because dragons are active and the savanna is open, improving your chance of a clear sighting.
Should I visit Komodo Island or Rinca Island to see dragons?
Both are excellent. Komodo Island tends to have larger, iconic individuals and more visitors; Rinca (Loh Buaya) has a higher dragon density, a wilder feel, and quieter trails. Choosing both islands in one full-day tour gives the widest coverage and the strongest realistic odds.
